Health & Medicine
Clínica Sagrada Esperança has in its genesis one of the basic principles of the great and powerful Diamang: workers are the most important capital of a company!
Therefore, it had always offered to all its staff a vast health network, which it managed independently, and which practically covered the entire province of Lunda, where, naturally, most of its staff were based, since this was also the its main intervention network.
This health network that Diamang made available to its workers, from top to bottom, provided all medical and medication assistance completely free of charge. With a Health Center with more than 200 beds, it was the second largest health institution in Angola, being the first in the private sector.
In 1990, Engineer Noé Baltazar, then President of Endiama, proposed the creation of a clinic in Luanda, with a dual function: treating the sick and caring for the children of employees in a Jardim-Escola day care center. What was intended, from the outset, was to actively participate in the social humanization that was already becoming crucial.
It was not, then, a peaceful decision, but Engineer Noé Baltazar had Doctor Dr. Macmahon, his assistant. Both with a humanized vision of society, feel the importance of investment in the sector and discuss the subject at length in their meetings on Thursdays. Thus, the idea arose of creating a rearguard in Luanda, in the facilities that everyone knows, a welcoming transit house destined until then for the cadres who traveled to Luanda and which, at the moment, was being reorganized.
This relocation, as is now being said, would, moreover, make it possible to expand and improve medical care and other resources. This is how the Sagrada Esperança Clinic was born, itself a concrete response to a particular appreciation for Medicine felt by Engineer Noé Baltazar and a desire to provide differentiated health services.
As we have been seeing, Clínica Sagrada Esperança was born from an initiative to respond to a need, not as a profitable activity in itself, and the investment process was very administrative, it did not follow the normal course of a company, which It would have been, in itself, a factor of slowness if Engineer Noé Baltazar had not been part of the transmission belt of the decision system, which allowed him to push forward and defend the project with all vehemence.
Thus, it was soon possible to make a superior presentation of the Project, with the support of the then Minister of Industry Henrique dos Santos Onamzwé and His Excellency the President of the Republic. In the space of one year, with the construction of a water pipeline with a length of 12 km and the creation of a health centre, the CSE was a visible reality. The resumption of Private Medicine in Angola and the recovery of the professional fabric of the Health Area was launched.
The 1st Director of the Clinic, still invited by Engenheiro Noé, was Dr. João José Bastos dos Santos, shortly after serving as deputy minister of health, between 1986 and 1988.
Followed by Dr. Eduardo Macedo dos Santos and, later, Dr. Rui Veiga Pinto, who received the task of restructuring and modernizing the Clinic.
An old aphorism says that “praise in your own mouth is impropriety” so we will let reality speak for itself:
We defend human and social values in the provision of quality health care that privileges the patient;
We are able to provide a response to diseases in a wide spectrum of needs;
We pay the greatest attention to the continuous training of all our employees, doctors and non-physicians;
Our Medical and Nursing Staff are among the best prepared in the country;
Our laboratories and equipment are at the level of the best in the world;
Clinical Humanization is one of our dearest goals;
We do not respect Persons, treating everyone who comes to us;
We extend, step by step, to the whole country, directly, in partnerships or through local “antennas”, our added value;
We are responsible for safe travel abroad, in case of need or at the request of the patient;
We have diversified the offer of Services to areas that, until now, required traveling abroad;
We strive daily to raise the quality of our Services wherever they are provided.
For all this, but not only, we can proudly say that the Sagrada Esperança Clinic is the most important health structure in our country. And we are only asked that each one of us give his contribution to make it an institution even more prepared, more human, closer to all those who seek us.
